Episode 10: Assignment 2 Plans

algebra-1238600_1280After a brief break from blog writing (due to Assignment 1 writing) I am back! What a better way to recommence blogging than with a mandatory post that is part of the Week 4 learning path. Initial plans for Assignment 2 (which are very likely to change before the assignment is due to be submitted) are to follow…

The context I have chosen is a combination of past professional experiences and my next professional experience. Although I haven’t yet narrowed down the specifics of the context, I have decided on a Year 4 class in a semi-rural agricultural community. The school is independent and possess a range of ICTs including class sets of laptops and iPads, as well as interactive whiteboards. The learning objectives that I have selected (so far, more to be added) include the following from the Australian Curriculum Mathematics:

Number & Algebra: Fractions & decimals- Recognise that the place value system can be extended to tenths and hundredths. Make connections between fractions and decimal notation (ACMNA079)

Number & Algebra: Money & financial mathematics- Solve problems involving purchases and the calculation of change to the nearest five cents with and without digital technologies (ACMNA080)

Associated criteria from the QCAA (in the form of standard’s elaborations) that have been selected (so far) include the following (click here for link to source):

Understanding and fluency: procedural fluency- Recall and use of facts, definitions, technologies and procedures to find solutions in a range of situations including some that are complex and unfamiliar

Finally, a possible unit topic may be: (‘Don’t) Forget about the price tag!’

I look forward to developing and altering these ideas as I work through Assignment 2.

Lucy
